William E. "Bill" Scott, 82, of Oxford, died May 27. A graduate of Miami University, he returned to his alma mater to teach Paper Science Engineering from 1974 until his retirement in 2006.
A Felllow of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), he was given the H. O. Ware Award in 1998 and was presented the Benjamin Harrison Award by Miami University in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of education to the nation.
A dedicated teacher, he rewrote his lectures every semester and took a personal interest in his students' wellbeing. He often invited international students to join his family for Thanskgving Dinner.
Born in Middletown, Ohio, he was a 1958 graduate of Monroe High School. During his adult years, he was a member of the Oxfrod Community Band, playing the trumptet. He also sang with the choir at the Oxford Presbyterian Church. An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hiking and biking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Scott and Thelma Hoplins, and by his brothers, David and Dennis Lawson. He is survived by his wife, Ginny; his daughters, Alison (Will McIntosh), and Elizabeth (Tom Rand); his grandchildren, Alistair, Hannah, Miles and Will; and his sister, Jane Crane.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Oxford Presbyterian Church. To protect the vulnerable in the community, the family asks attendees to wear a mask.
