Margaret Head Burgess passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022, at the age of 97. Margaret was born on February 3, 1925, in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Henry Branscom and Irene Porter Head. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to the Junior Class for over 5o years. She enjoyed the time she spent with these kids and could always be found at home on Saturday nights preparing for Sunday's lesson. Margaret worked at Eagles, A.V. Wray and then Dalton-Ward until her retirement. Afterwards she volunteered countless hours in the ICU waiting room at Rutherford Hospital with the Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Forrest "Smoky" Burgess in 1991, her daughter, Donice Burgess Henke in 1977, and her siblings, Lewis Head, Henry Head, David Head, and Susan Hance.

She is survived by her son, Larry Harold Burgess and wife, Carolyn, her grandchildren, Greg Burgess and wife Michelle, Stephanie Burgess Downey and husband Chuck, Carl Henke, and wife Salina. Great-grandchildren, Suzanne Burgess Matthews, and husband Nick, Gregory Burgess and wife, Melanie, Carson Burgess Downey, and Brittany Mclain. Great-great-grandchildren, Hope, Seth, and Oliver and others including nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday, September 8, 2022, in the Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Scott Moneyham officiating. The family is not planning a visitation however her body will lie in state from 2 until 3 o'clock prior to the service. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
