Arthur enlisted in Militia #669, 3rd Regiment, Blouts Company, Continental Line in 1778 and served for seven years .He was killed in in a battle/skirmish in 1784 at Six-Mile Creek, near Charlotte, North Carolina according to The University of North Carolina. Arthur was awarded a 640-acre land grant on March 22 for military service in 1784. He sold this immediately to a Nathaniel Street. He was killed not long after.

Arthur was born in 1749 in Craven, NC.His children were:James ARNOLD (b abt 1768 in Craven), John ARNOLD (b abt 1771 in Craven) and Sarah ARNOLD (b abt 1775 in NC).
According to Craven County Courts of Pleas and Quarter sessions: John Arnold (Arnel), an Orphan lad 13 years old as of last July 9, is apprenticed to Charles Johnson, a shoemaker by court order dtd. Dec.18 1784. His brother James Arnold (Arnel) 16 years old as of July 9 last was apprenticed to John Nelson to train as a house carpenter on the same court order.
