Barbara Brice Cross, 92, of Aliquippa, formerly of Butler, died on April 16, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

She was born in Pittsburgh, to Dorothy Douthitt Brice and Jerome Clement Brice.

Barbara was a graduate of Crafton High School in 1947. She attended Carnegie Mellon University for her freshman year of college, and transferred to Penn State University to complete her degree in health and human development in 1951.

Barbara retired from the Butler County Public Assistance Office after starting her career as a caseworker and working her way up to becoming executive director. After retiring, she chose to work for FEMA for several years, providing administrative assistance for disaster relief.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, visiting her grandchildren, crossword puzzles, and watching public television. She also enjoyed clothes shopping and loved a good martini.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Patterson; and her son, Scott Jerome "Jerry" Cross.

She was previously married to Ralph Cross, who died in 1999.

Surviving are her four children, Jonathan B. Cross and his wife, Cara, of Butler, Jeffrey R. Cross and his wife, Marge, of Middleton, Pa., Joel C. Cross and his wife, Laurie, of Harrisburg, and Jennifer D. Brown and her husband, Greg, of Central Pointe, Ore.; and a daughter-in-law, Lori Cross of West Sunbury.

She also had 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

During her late life, she was assisted by her friends, Vincent and Todd.

CROSS — A private family gathering for Barbara Brice Cross, who died Saturday, April 16, 2022, will be held at a later date.
