Shirley Lorene Edwards

Shirley Lorene Edwards, 71, of Houston Texas passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday June 20th, 2022 in her hometown after a year-long struggle with Acute myeloid leukemia.
Shirley was a Christian at heart and former member of First United Methodist Church of Pasadena where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Daughter to Douglas Cecil Slade and Lorene Wheat, Shirley was a Texan through and through. While her family hailed from Mexia, Texas, Shirley was born and raised in Houston on April 7th 1951, and would later graduate from Sam Houston High School. After high school, she took classes at San Jacinto College to further hone her true passion, art. Professionally, Shirley was a secretary at Sohio Petroleum before settling down as a homemaker to focus on taking care of her family.
Shirley was known to all as a loving, peaceful person. In 1969, she married Michael Thomas Edwards in Houston. Shirley and Michael deeply loved each other during 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. During their marriage they had two children, Jessica and Justin.
Her passion was art and music. Her artwork often reflected the things that she loved and found beauty in, such as the Texas gulf coast region, flowers, and her beloved pets. Though she was able to play the piano, bass guitar, viola, and clarinet very well - she much more enjoyed listening to and experiencing the music. She was steadfast and loyal to Michael during his musician career, and she loved to travel to be with him and his band when they performed around Texas. Country blues was her favorite type of music, and her favorite artists were Billie Joe Shaver, Richard Dobson, and Townes Van Zandt.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Jessica and Justin Edwards, along with her son-in-law, Josh Estep.
She will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones, and she will live on forever in their hearts.
