Marla Jean Powers Thompson of Cave City, AR passed away on August 6, 2021, at the age of 76. Marla was born on December 13, 1944, in Paris, AR to Sid & Opal Powers. She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1978 and was a dedicated school teacher for over 20 years. Marla married the love of her life, Joe Dennis Thompson, on February 25,1961 and together they raised five children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and her family was her greatest joy.

Marla was passionate about taking care of others and gave far more to the world than she ever received. She came immediately when there was a need and fought passionately for the causes that she believed in. Marla was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Cave City United Methodist Church. Ever the character, laughter was always involved when Marla was around.

Marla was preceded in death by her parents and sister Chloe Millard. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Joe Thompson. Her children Rocky (Denise) Thompson of Lonoke, AR; Joe D. Thompson Jr of Little Rock, AR; Amber Williams of Fredericksburg, VA; Jessica (Johnny) Brightwell of Cave City, AR; and Nicole Bolin of Cabot, AR. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Aaron Brightwell, Stacey Thompson, Katria Williams, Nicholas Williams, Sydney Dennis, Matt Thompson, Mackenzie Clayton, Trey Thompson, Evelyn Green, Spencer Thompson, and Tyler Brightwell. Her great grandchildren: Emily Herrington, Mollie Isley, Bailey Isley, Hayden Brightwell, Will Taylor, Kaylyn Mohlke, Ryder Wilson, Kensley Dennis, Cooper Dennis, and Malachi Clayton. And great-great grandchildren Jameson Armstrong, and Rugar Rounds. With three more great grandchildren currently on the way and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who loved her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cave City. Guests will be asked to wear masks in order to attend, and a streaming option will be available for those who cannot attend in person. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be mailed to Cave City United Methodist Church: 56 AR Highway 115, Cave City, AR 72521 or to the Wade Knox Children's Advocacy Center: 1835 SW Front Street, Lonoke, AR 72086. Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home in Cave City.
