Mattie Lee Watson was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and church sister. She was the oldest of 4 children. Mattie, known as "Babe" to her sisters, often talked about singing her younger sisters to sleep.
Mattie loved singing gospel songs like Just a closer walk with thee, When the roll is called in Heaven, and His eye is on the sparrow. Later in life she began writing songs and wrote over 300 songs, psalms, poems as part of her legacy to her children. She wrote in the morning, noon, evening, and the middle of the night; sometimes resorting to waking her children up at 2AM to give her a rhyme for this last line. Her book of songs is called "Songs from the Heart" and features original artwork with a dirt road and a split rail fence because Mattie dreamed of walking with Jesus down a dirt road with a split rail fence on the side. Sister Watson loved sharing her songs with anyone and everyone. Often singing in the London SDA church in Maybee, Michigan; her love for praising God always shined through when she testified through song.
Along with her love of God, family, friends, and Gospel music, Mattie will be remembered for her witty sayings, love for books, soap operas, game shows, her emphasis on education for her children, mouthwatering coconut cakes, and her magical ability to make something amazing out of nothing in the kitchen.
Now that the roll is being called in Heaven, Mattie has joined her previously ascended family and is marching around the throne with her mother. Mattie was proceeded in death by her mother Mazie Walker, father Clement Halliburton, husband Romo Watson, her three sisters Alice, Jean, and Mary Tolbert, her most handsome son Tommy Lee Watson, many in-laws, and many close friends.
Mattie is survived by her four sons Jerome (Debbie), Anthony (Myra), Steven, and Kenneth Watson, four daughters Christina Montague, Krishna Watson Starnes (Price), Cynthia Knight, and Linda Guillory, beloved in-laws Johnnie King, Pecolia Bell, Della Hendricks, and George Watson, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
