Mr. Nelson was born in Decatur, Illinois on May 6, 1959, son of the late Robert Samuel Nelson and the late Virginia Malverine Frye Nelson. He had worked in construction since he was 16 years old and as a general contractor since 1995 owning and operating Nelson & Nelson Contractors.
Survivors include his wife; three children; four grandchildren; a precious nephew.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Nelson was cremated, and all services were private.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Mark's name to one of the following: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN) https://secure.pancan.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2681&mfc_pref=T&2681.donation=form1 (877) 272-6226; Cancer Navigators https://cancernavigatorsga.org/make-secure-online-donation/ (706) 509-5040; Heyman Hospicecare at Floyd https://www.floyd.org/foundation/Pages/Make-a-Donation.aspx (706) 509-3200. These three organizations played an essential role in Mark's cancer journey. The people who work at these facilities truly have hearts of gold and deserve the title of "Angel on Earth." Not only did they fill our home with love and hope, but they sacrificed so much of their own personal time and energy to ensure that our family had the resources and support that was so desperately needed.
