Samuel Clements Barbour, 93, of Madison Heights, died Friday, February 1, 2008, at Medical Care Center. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mildred Campbell Ryan Barbour. Born May 16, 1914, in Gretna, he was the son of the late John D. Barbour and the late Effie Wyatt Barbour. Mr. Barbour was a retired store manager at Southern Wholesale Co. in Calhoun, Georgia, after 23 years of employment and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, of Monroe. He served his country during WWII with the US Army and participated in three invasions including New Guinea and the Philippines. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barbour was preceded in death by a son, Steven L. Barbour; by four brothers and three sisters. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Larry Barbour and wife, Gaye, of Leesburg, Brenda K. Barbour, of Duluth, Georgia, and Mickey Ryan and wife, Gayle, of Madison Heights; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Jane B. Bryant and husband, Henry, of Newport News; two sisters-in-law: Mary C. Eubank, of Forest, and Mary L. Campbell, of Madison Heights; and one brother-in-law, Glenn Campbell and wife, Dianne, of Monroe. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2008, at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Reverend Glynn A. Coleman and the Reverend Mickey Ryan. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 12:30 – 2 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2008, prior to the service, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. A special thank you from the family goes to the staff and personnel of Medical Care Center for their tender care.
