MARIETTA -- Services for Berniece R. Hays, 92, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Simon officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hays was born April 11, 1908, in Love County, to Robert and Jackie Tapp Cartwright. She died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in an Ardmore health care facility.
A lifetime resident of Love County, she married J.H. "Butch" Hays April 19, 1924, in Marietta, and they moved to Marietta in 1960 from Loves Valley. She was employed as a sales clerk at Saunders Variety Store for 25 years before she retired. She had been a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church for 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 8, 1987; a daughter, Jo Nell Carey, March 7, 1988; grandchildren, Roger Hayes, Vicki Graves and David Hayes; and son-in-law, Al Graves.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Pam Hayes, Marietta, and J.H. and Myrna Hayes, Thackerville; a daughter, Melva Graves, Fayetteville, Ark.; a sister, Bonnie Smith, Marietta; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Don Hays, Mutt Hays, Bo Hays, Tommy Hays, Wayne Bond and John Kennedy. Honorary bearers are members of Ruth Sunday school class.
