Fred was an avid golfer and a pilot of single-engine Cessna aircraft. He began flying in Sep 1978, got his private pilot license in 1979, and had over 615 flying hours by 1988, according to his flight logs. He retired from Ficosa of North America, where he was Senior Tool Engineer; he traveled extensively for Ficosa during his long tenure there.
Fred Allison was a faithful servant of God and his church, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville, Tennessee. Even through a pandemic, Fred never ceased to serve as an usher, gathering the collection every Sunday at the 10:45 Mass. Fred's passing has left us missing him badly, as he was there every Sunday, almost without fail. His dedication to his church serves as an inspiration to the next generation of church "helpers". To quote another Fred, Fred Rogers: "always look for the helpers". (thank you to Rex Bennett, a coworker with him at church, for sharing this information.)
His family includes his brother: Phillip (Barbara-Lu) Allison of Melbourne, Florida; sister: Beverly Robinson of Burnsville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Timothy Eugene Allison.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Kopel officiating. Graveside services and interment were conducted Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, North Carolina with Rev. Mark Nash officiating.
