Mildred A. Eichstadt, age 87, of Huron, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her residence.

Her funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey with the Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. An online registry is available at www.kuhlerfuneralhome.com.

Mildred was born January 16, 1921, at Hooper, Nebraska to Edward and Alma (Havkost) Moller. She grew up there and moved to the Wessington area as a young child. On January 11, 1942, she married Robert Eichstadt at Huron.

Farm life was very important to Mildred. She was proud of her large vegetable garden, and spent countless hours planting, tending, harvesting and canning her produce. Mildred also raised chickens and was known as the "Egg Lady." Her chickens produced eggs that she delivered to businesses and homes for many years.

Large family gatherings were a special source of joy as she loved to cook and bake for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also shared that love with others when she cared for several elderly persons in their homes for a number of years.

As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, Mildred volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, a Vacation Bible school teacher, and she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

They retired from farming and moved to Huron in 2002.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Robert Eichstadt of Huron; seven children and their families, Bruce (Irene) Eichstadt of Wolsey and their daughter, Becky Eichstadt; Delores (Robert) Chapman of Huron and their children, Michell and Randy Sayers and their children, Tony and Brittany, Tina and Jay Payton and their children, Xan, Dominique and David, and Deanna Chapman and Kelly McNab and their children, Dustin Van Overschelde, McKaylla and Jozlynn Powell; Dennis (Ranae) Eichstadt of Huron, and their children, Clinton Eichstadt, Angie and Greg Kruse and Matt Eichstadt; Mary (Bruce) Boetel of Brookings, and their children, Crystal and Brock Teske and their son, Broden, and Jon and Jessica Boetel and their children, Ben and Abey; Thomas Eichstadt of Huron, and his children, Sarah and James Stuart and their children, James and Katrina, and Christina Eichstadt; Timothy (Diane) Eichstadt of Norfolk, Neb., and their children, Joe and Alisa Eichstadt and their children, Melissa-Melody, Virginia-Kimberly and Alissa-Cherish Marcan, Angie and Jacob Johnson and their children, Daunna and Mike, Josie Kocmich and Megan Kocmich; and Merle (Pam) Eichstadt of Huron and their children, Jacob Eichstadt and his son, Paul, Daniel Eichstadt, Nathan Eichstadt, Jordan Hopper and Lisa Douglas and her son, DaShaun Woody; two sisters and their spouses, Berniece and Russel Testerman of Miller, and Irene and Nova Palmer of Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
