-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paula Judge Sonnenberg Beloved mother, grandmother and loyal friend passed away peacefully on August 13, 2016 at her home just five days shy of her 91st birthday. Paula and her twin brother Austin were born on August 18, 1925 in San Francisco. As a descendant of Francisco Pacheco, for whom Pacheco Pass is named, she was a seventh generation Californian. She was proud of her heritage and loved sharing it with all her family. Paula attended Star of the Sea grammar school, Lowell High School, University of the Pacific and Cal Berkeley where she joined Delta Gamma Sorority. While working in San Francisco after college, she met Harold Sonnenberg. They were married on May 12, 1951 at Old St. Mary's Church. With their young family, they moved to Marin in 1955 and remained there for the rest of their lives. They enjoyed gatherings with their many friends and family and were happily married for 55 years, until Harold passed in 2006. Mom was active in many charitable organizations such as Sunny Hills, Marin General volunteers and the Northgate Group, as well as numerous bridge groups with her many friends. She did beautiful needlepoint work, sewing, and knitting. Paula loved her garden and delighted in its beauty. Mom lived the last six months of her life at Nazareth House in San Rafael. She was lovingly cared for and enjoyed her lively tablemates! She is survived by her daughters Karin, Lita (Jeff) and son Bob (Cindy), and grandchildren Patrick, Paula (Noah), Rob (Kathy), Tim (Vivi), Schuyler, Jamie and step-grandchildren Jennifer (Dave) and Christine (Dave). Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 1, 2016 at 11:00AM in the chapel at Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way in San Rafael, CA. A reception will follow in the auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Nazareth House or a charity of our choice is preferred.
