Roger Anschutz, age 79, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, in Hays. He was born January 7, 1943, in Russell, Kansas, to Henry Anschutz and Edna (Wittman) Anschutz.

During the Bolsheviks Revolution, Roger's dad, Henry, traveled with family from Russia through Poland to Germany. They departed for America from Frankfurt, Germany, on board the Sierra Ventana. They arrived at Ellis Island on August 15, 1924. Henry talked about working and living in Chicago for a period and eventually the family mostly settled in the Dorrance, Bunker Hill, Wilson area.

He married Cynthia Werth on August 20, 1971, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays.

He attended Navy Hospital CORSP School and Hospital Medical Service School, stationed on a hospital Navy ship in Sigonella Sicily during the Vietnam War.

He attended Fort Hays State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. He worked for many years at Hadley Regional Medical Center, now Hays Medical Center in various positions including Hospital OR Nursing Scrub Tech, Circulating Nurse, OR Supervisor and later Supervisor of Outpatient Surgical Services.

Roger enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, golfing, bird watching, but mostly spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia, daughters; Sarah Nicks (Tim), Melissa Donaldson (Brent), son, Creighton Anschutz, Grandchildren; Tanner Nicks (Haley), Cole Nicks, Meyer Donaldson, Averine Donaldson; Great Grandchildren; Layden and Reign Nicks, and a brother, Ronald Anschutz (Pam).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, Kansas 67601. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday 5:30 PM- 8:00 PM, also at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Tunnel to Towers or The American Cancer Society.
