Senior corrections officer for South Woods State Prison

Our dearly beloved Sonya Maria Mullins went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, in Rosenhayn.

Born on Dec. 18, 1965, to Jean Lee Geiger and the late Pedro "Pete" Quinones, Sonya was a senior corrections officer for South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton. Sonya, a lifelong resident of Cumberland County, attended the Bridgeton public school system and was a member of the graduating class of 1984. Sonya accepted the Lord into her life and was a member of Union Baptist Temple in Bridgeton.

Sonya leaves to cherish her precious memories her mother, Jean Lee Geiger of Bridgeton; two loving sons, Michael Childers of Atlanta and Markese Childers of Bridgeton; one loving daughter, Jakheira Rhett of Bridgeton; three grandchildren, Markese Childers Jr., Jaionni Jordan and Jaylen Rhett; four sisters, Paula Stewart of Bridgeton, Donna and husband Troy Pitts of Bridgeton, Lisa and husband David Bateman of Glassboro, and Carmen Quinones of Puerto Rico; one brother, Walter Mullins of Florida; two nieces, Marquita Adams of Bridgeton and Aaliyah Bateman of Glassboro; seven nephews, Timothy Smith, Milford Adams, Mike Hinson, Richard Smith, Dominique Williams and Denzel Pitts, all of Bridgeton, and James Brown of Glassboro; two godchildren, Tytrel Stubbs and Lamus Rhett Jr. of Bridgeton; a very special friend, Tonya Brown of Bridgeton; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In addition to her father, Sonya was preceded in death by her stepfather, Frederick Geiger; and two brothers, William Quinones and Emilio Quinones.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Temple, Willow and South Pine streets, Bridgeton, with Pastor Albert Morgan officiating.

Interment will be at Fordville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in support of the family.
