Family Misfortune (as provided by md391 originally shared this on 23 May 2010)
James, a butcher(son- in-law of Andrew and Anne Kelly).
He and his family lived on the Kelly farm in Harlem (near Gracie Mansion). Upon his death, the farm was stolen by a land robber. The farm was foreclosed upon with little notice. Daughter Anna sadly recalled going to her father's funeral in a beautiful white dress. Children ran up to her on her way back and one threw dirt on. She (and her family) had to leave the farm on a truck with her St. Bernard. She had to abandon the St. Bernard so they could move into a tenement with Andrew and Anna Kelly. It's something she never forgot.
