Robert was the son of Christopher Paeper and Caroline Lena Reno. He married Inez Cole on January 12, 1884. They were the parents of five sons: Wm, Edward, Roy, Fred and Chris.

The Newell Mirror - Thursday , September 14th, 1939 - The community was greatly
shocked when it was learned that one of Newell's grand old men passed away as he was tunning up his car to attend the Old Settlers Picnic at Storm Lake, Monday noon.
Mr. R.J. Paeper went to the garage about 11 o'clock to fix the water pump on his car and as he did not return for dinner Mrs Paeper went to the garage to call for him.

Finding the garage filled with gas from the car Mrs. Paeper returned to the house and called Mr. Paeper's son Fred, who entered the garage and found him dead in the front seat of his car. County coroner Taylor pronounced death due to carbon Monoxide gas.

Despite his 79 years, Mr. Paeper had been in good health for a man of his age. He was a man that everyone in the community respected and was always jolley and enjoyed the life of a good Christian. He knew the hardships of life, as a pioneer of Iowa.

Upon arriving in the United States from Germany with his parents settled at Michigan City, Indiana and later moved to Iowa, finally settling in Douglas township, Sac County in the year 1898, spending practically all the remainder of his life in this community. In 1920 he moved to Newell.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2:00 o'clock from the local Methodist church with burial in the Newell cemetery. Music was furnished by the Methodist male quartette which includes Frank Witter, Lyle Smith, Duane Smith and H. Swartzendruber.
