Aunt Maryann Adkins, wife of Elliott Adkins laid down the burden of life,January 28,1928. She was 79 years,11 months and 28 days of age. She had suffered much of late years and welcomed the Lord's message to come up higher. She had been an active and earnest Christian since she was 12 years of age and was one of the outstanding women and mothers of this neighborhood. We will miss her for she was always ready and willing to help when and where the services of a kind and tender woman were needed. She has left sadness and sore hearts here but we feel that there was rejoicing in heaven and that our loss was her gain. She always counseled us that we should lead better lives and do more for the Lord, and by her good works she set an example of faithful service that we know has gained her a heavenly home. Her last words were in the effect tht she wanted those by her bedside to live in such manner that they would meet her over there. Five of her children had preceded her to the grave, several years ago; surviving are her husband, one son and four daughters; the children are Elijah Adkins, Sias; Mrs Wiser Adkins, Fez; Mrs Hayes Elkins, Hamlin; Mrs Walter Scraggs, West Hamlin; Mrs Ed Wilson, Oakhill,Ohio. Thirty five grandchildren and twenty five great grandchildren also survive, as well as one sister and three brothers and a host of friends and distant relatives. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Johnson at Collins Knob church, after which the body was laid to rest in the Golsberry cemetery. We will miss her, now she's gone; but her work on earth was done she has passed the earthly doom, and is in that land beyond the gloom.
