JOHN ALPHEUS GREENWAY - Tuesday - January 10, 2006

Chelan - John Alpheus Greenway, 92, passed away on January 6, 2006, at his home in Chelan, WA, surrounded by his family and his faithful cat, Charlie.
He was born in 1913, near LaCrosse in Rush County, Kansas. John married the love of his life, Alice Knievel, in 1942, in Santa Fe, NM. They traveled by motorcycle to Bremerton, WA where John worked in the Navy Yard. In 1949, they relocated to Las Vegas, NM. In 1956, John and his family moved to Chelan, where he worked in the masonry trade until age 81.
John was an avid motorcyclist and rode until the age of 89. He loved reading, hunting, traveling, and was a skillful gunsmith who enjoyed repairing even the most antique or damaged gun back to perfection. John possessed a dry sense of humor and was a wise, inventive man who loved his family and the simple things of life. He was a mentor to his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice in 1979; two brothers, Clifford and Martin James Greenway; and two grandchildren, Jody Lenz and Heidi Merchant. He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Kinnamon, Pueblo, CO, and Alice Rhodes, Phoenix, AZ; three children, Jerry Greenway (Karen), Julia Merchant (Allen), and Annette Lenz (Bruce), all of Chelan; four grandsons; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
John requested no formal services, and bids a fond farewell to his family and friends. The family will host a gathering to celebrate his life in the Fireside Room at the Christian Church, 210 Wapato Ave in Chelan on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Please come and reminisce with us.
