Hazel "Ish" Griffith, 92, a resident of Union City, died Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 1pm at East View Cemetery. Visitation will be held at White-Ranson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
Mrs. Griffith was born in Erwin, TN, on November 17, 1930, daughter of the late Raymond Buchanan and the late Georgia Lee Garland Buchanan.
She married the late Sherrell Griffith in 1953. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1997. She graduated from Unicoi County High School and then attended the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught a Sunday School Class and served on various committees.
She was actively involved in nursing until her retirement in 1995. She had been employed at the Union City Clinic and the TN Department of Public Health. She had been named Nurse of the Year by District 22 TN Nurses Association, Tennessee Nurse in Action and had served on the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
Mrs. Griffith is survived by her daughter, Martha Stephenson of South Fulton; her granddaughter, Amy Palmer of Dyersburg; grandson James Bailey of Dyersburg; two brothers and sister-in-law, Mr. James Buchanan of Erwin and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Patricia) Buchanan of Blountville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her brother, Herb Buchanan.
