He graduated from Braintree High School Class of 1964, where he participated in track and field. He graduated from Bridgewater State University with a bachelor's degree in education, and became an earth sciences teacher at Stoughton High School for three decades. In 1970, he married Janet Ross, a nurse, and they had three children. Their marriage ended in divorce, He enjoyed mineralogy, collecting precious stones and polishing rocks; he owned his own mine in Herkimer, NY. On June 21, 2006, his son, SFC Jared C Monti was killed in action in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. He became an advocate for gold star families and was never prouder than when Jared posthumously received the Medal of Honor at the White House from President Obama in September 2009. He started Operation Flags For Vets, Monti's Run, and the SFC Jared C. Monti Charitable Foundation. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Jared; and brother, Joseph, Jr. Surviving are his children, Niccole T Monti and her husband, Waldo of Grifton, NC, and Timothy J Monti and his wife, Jennifer of Westville, OK; seven sisters, Jean of Bridgewater, Marianne Riley of Englewood, FL, Frances Harring of Malta, NY, Marguerite Cook of Oak Bluffs, Ann Eagles of Lewes, DE, Rita Hammerstad of Jacksonville, FL, and Patricia Corsini of Plymouth; four brothers, Matthew of Norton, Anthony of Holbrook, Michael of Lakeville, and James of Plymouth; and former wife, Janet, of Grifton, NC.
