John William Mayberry, 81, of Senath, Mo., passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at NHC Nursing Home in Somerville, Tenn. John was born in Senath on February 23, 1933 to the late Hazel P. Mayberry and Oleen Fuzzell Mayberry. Both preceded him in death, along with a sister, Dorothy Brown. He has one living sister, Wynona Schumacher, who is in a nursing home in Ill.

John graduated from Kennett High School in 1950. He joined the Navy in October of 1952, during the Korean War, and served initially on the submarine tender USS Sperry AS-12. He was later transferred to the Destroyer USS Fechteler DD-870. He was honorably discharged in March of 1955.

John married Jerris Ann Reed on September 5, 1955. He is survived by his daughter, Mona Romans, and husband, John; his son John Henry Mayberry, and wife, Sheila; grandchildren Luke Romans, Brydon Romans and Justin Mayberry.

John worked as a farmer, sale representative and postal worker. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Memphis, Tenn. in 1995.

The family of John Mayberry wishes to thank his neighbors in Senath, David and Angie Kitchens, and Sonny and Linda Krantz, who were wonderful friends to him before and after his illness. When his illness became too severe for him to stay in his home in Senath, in March of 2013, John went to stay with relatives in Collierville, Tenn., and finally to a skilled nursing facility in Somerville in March of this year, where he passed away.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, with Rev. Chris Maynard officiating.

McDaniel Funeral Services of Kennett will be in charge of arrangements.

11/5/2022 I checked for marriage records since the obituary states he was married to Jerris Ann Reed. I found where he was married to Anna Lois Ricks 1937-1994.
