John Bloom came to America from Liebau, Latvia. Latvia was one of those countries that was swallowed up behind the Iron Curtain of Russia. He entered America at Galveston, Texas. I have his Naturalization papers.

My uncle, John Bloom, later served in the U. S. Army during WWI. As he and his wife were childless, I inherited and am the proud owner of the trifold flag that draped his casket. He married my dad's older sister Alma Etta (Taylor) Bloom on 2 March 1920 in Oelwein, Fayette, Iowa.

He worked for many years for Chicago, Great Western (CGW) Railway which has a large switch yard in Oelwein, Iowa.

John Bloom had no middle name.
