Clutha "R" Layton Johnston Harvey passed away peacefully on January 25, 2008 in Mesa, Az. Born December 25, 1914 to Jesse Monroe and Muriel Randall Layton in Central AZ. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas D. Johnston and Joe B. Harvey; sisters: Pearl Campbell and Ruth Menefee; her brother Clifford "Bud" Layton; grandchildren: John and Diana Kay Austin, Jeff Johnston and son-in-law, Chet Lamoreaux. As a lifelong member of the LDS Church, she had served faithfully in every auxillary. She served a full time mission in the Western States and was a worker in the Mesa Temple. Proud of her pioneer heritage, she spent many hours doing and teaching genealogy, helping others research their families. She worked as a secretary for an insurance firm and LDS Social Service. A longtime member of the DUP, she enjoyed being music leader, also using her musical talent singing in numerous quartets and choirs. Clutha had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed people. Her family was a joy to her and grandchildren a special blessing. She lived a full and productive life and we will treasure the time spent together. Surviving are her 4 children: Janice Austin-Webb (Newell) and Betty Lamoreaux of Mesa, Carroll M. Johnston (Kelda) of Las Vegas, NV and Glenn D. Johnston (Maxine) of Bayfield, CO, along with 13 grandchildren. 33 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services to honor our Mother and Grandmother will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10:00am at Park Center Ward Building, 422 E. University Drive in Mesa. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church perpetual education fund. Interment will be in the Thatcher Arizona Cemetery at 3:00pm.
