MARIETTA -- Graveside rites for Danny Joe Sparks, 51, were 3 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Cemetery with Jackie Kerley officiating.
Born Feb. 19, 1949, at Courtney to Roy W. and Leota Mobley Sparks, he died Jan 12, 2001, at an Ardmore hospital. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Sparks on March 14, 1997.
He married Janet C. Caldwell Sept. 1, 1971, at Gainesville, Texas. Sparks lived all of his life in Love County. He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the United State Army. He had been awarded the National Defense Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry With Palm, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Army Commendation Medal. He was a member of Paralyzed Veterans of American. Sparks was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, of the home; five sons, Kevin Hartman, Ardmore, Derrick Gray, Brandon Sparks, Craig Sparks and Buddy Burton, all Marietta; three brothers, Jimmy Sparks, Selah, Wash., Leroy Sparks, Wilson, and Butch Sparks, Burneyville; two sisters, Marie Floyd and Barbara Bond, both of Marietta; and five grandchildren;.
Bearers were Derrick Gray, Buddy Burton, Donnie Caldwell, Kevin Hartman, Brandon Sparks and Craig Sparks. Honorary bearers were Johnny Hartman, Rainford Burton, Roy Henderson, Raymond White, Turkey Vernon, Dale Lyons and Joe Russell.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
