Edwin Verl Kelsey was born April 13, 1914 in New Harmony, Utah to Francis (Frank) Prince Kelsey and Charlotte (Lottie) Ballard. He spent his life in new Harmony, except for his last few years at the Beehive Home in Richfield, Utah. He passed away in Richfield on January 26, 2008 at the Sevier Valley Hospital.

As a young man, Verl was a well-rated welterweight boxer, and kept his fighting spirit until the very end. He loved the outdoors, his horses, his dogs, and his farm. He was known for his beautiful and prolific vegetable gardens and apple trees, and was frequently asked for gardening advice. People came from miles around to buy his apples, and he generously shared much of the food from his garden.
This master gardener spent 18 years helping beautify the grounds at Southern Utah University. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in numerous positions.

He was married to his sweetheart, Viola Woodbury, for 66 years. Verl leaves behind a daughter, Verlene Kelsey-McKee (Ron McKee), and two sons, Deon (Jan) Kelsey, DVM, and Marvin (Laura) Kelsey, grandchildren Kim (Dustin) Anderson, Kristi (Michael) Meagher, Kirk (Kamie) Kelsey, Justin and Brett Kelsey, 4 great-grandchildren, Jaren & Keaten Anderson, Kaylen Kelsey, Emma Meagher, and brother Ted (Barbara) Kelsey.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merlin, Bevan, and Ferrell Kelsey and sister Leah Batty.

Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
