Son of Thomas L Matthews and J Irene (Gaudette) Matthews. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Waltham, MA in 1950 and from Boston College in 1954. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an insurance adjuster in the Boston area for many years before moving to Falmouth in 1972. He and his wife, Rose, owned Matthews Real Estate for 18 years. Later he was a realtor at Vincent Associates Real Estate in Falmouth until he retired in 2002. He was an usher at St. Patrick Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Attorney William P Matthews. Surviving are his wife, Rose J (Noe) Matthews; brother, John L Matthews of West Newton; sister Margaret Ann Murphy of Falmouth Heights; eight nieces, three nephews; and sisters in-law, Lucy Matthews & Mary Gucciardi.
