Harold "Larry" McKearney – a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was blessed with a long life of 90 years.

He was born January 6, 1932, the first child to parents Terrence and Maime McKearney of East Concord, VT. Following high school, Larry served in the United States Air Force and was stationed as a communications specialist in Labrador, Canada.

He married his beloved wife, Mary Louise Sorrell, on August 3, 1957, after which they moved to Connecticut where Larry was employed at Pratt and Whitney. He earned his electrical license and began work as a professional electrician. His entrepreneurial nature blossomed when he managed Terryville Ten Pin and later Mac's Corner Store in Terryville. At the end of his career, he was employed by the Bristol Board of Education as a technician who maintained the school system's audio and video equipment.

Larry and Louise welcomed five children and raised the family in Terryville, CT. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, daughter, Sherrie Gemmell and son-in-law Kenneth Gemmell, daughter, Susan Sirois and son-in-law James Sirois, daughter, Pamela Lavoie, daughter, Lisa Rehmer and son-in-law Dennis Rehmer and his son, Reverend James McKearney. Being a grandfather came easily to Larry and he adored each of his ten grandchildren: Nicole Lacic, Kevin Gemmell, Matthew Lavoie, Daniel Gemmell, Jeffrey Sirois, Kristen Lavoie, Brett Gemmell, Michael Sirois, Courtney Rehmer, and Taylor Rehmer. He teased and doted on his five great-grandchildren Ethan Lacic, Madison Lacic, Amelia McCall, Noah McCall, and Emma Gemmell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Roland McKearney, his sister Ellen McLaughlin, and his son-in-law, Samuel Lavoie. He is survived by his brother, Frederick McKearney, and his sister, Hilda Lucas.

Throughout the years, Larry enjoyed playing golf, building jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards and dominos. He had a passion for carpentry and left family members with a wide variety of picture frames, hutches, toy boxes, and tables. He was a man who lived his faith and performed countless acts of kindness for family and friends, freely giving his mechanical talent.

For those wishing to pay their respects to Larry, visitation hours will be held at the Scott Funeral Home in Terryville, CT, on Wednesday evening from 4 pm to 7 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Terryville on Thursday at 10 am. Burial with Military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. https://www.scottfuneralhomeinc.com
