RICHARD AARON "SONNY" WALKER, JR., 75, of Duncan, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, in Duncan.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Immanuel Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry Couch, Buddy Hunt and David Spangler officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Walters, to Richard A. Walker Sr. and Georgia A. Reece Walker. He married Sylvia Shworles on June 1, 1957, in Chicago, Ill.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.
Sonny was a farmer and rancher for over 50 years. He was a past member of the Cotton County Soil Conservation Board.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Central State University. He taught sixth grade for one year, and coached sixth grade boys' and girls' basketball at Empire School. He was also a past member of the Empire School Board.
Sonny loved children, playing games, poetry, and traveling with his family and friends.
He was formerly a member and deacon of Fair Baptist Church, and now a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Lagaly of Weatherford, Texas, and Patty and Jeff Jacobs of Thornton, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Staci Walker of Lawton; a brother, Paul Walker and his wife Betty of Duncan; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Stepp and Stacie Stepp, Jessica Stepp Rainey and husband Damon, Chad Lagaly and wife Rachel, Heather Lagaly, Christine Lagaly, Gabby Walker, Grant Walker, and one more on the way; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Matt, Mike and Vera Jacobs; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Susie and Ken Murphree, Dr. Tim and Carrie Walker, Kristi and Kevin Bloss, Marolyn Cole Anderson, Carolyn Cole Savage and John Henry Cole.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary A. Cole.
Bearers will be Dr. Tim Walker, Ken Murphree, Kevin Bloss, Grant Walker, Chad Lagaly and Zach McKinnis.
