Karen Sue Newberry Shaw born in Wood County West Virginia October 22, 1942 and died April 26, 2022. Her parents were Denzil E. Newberry and Gypsy P. Newberry. She Graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1960. After studying at Ohio Valley College, she received an appointment to the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She graduated from Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1965 and worked in the pediatric ICU for one year. In 1966 she worked in pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Hospital while her sister finished studies at a local college. Finally in 1971 she followed her dream and obtained a position in what is now the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, Switzerland. She worked two years in the neurological ICU and one year in the thoracic ICU. On returning to the US she moved to Colorado and obtained employment at Porter Adventist Hospital where she worked from 1976 until her retirement in 2002. Always curious during those years she studied at the University of Colorado Denver and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in December 1979. She met and married Michael D. Shaw, her stalwart friend and beloved husband and they had two cherished children, Daniel M. Shaw (Denver) and Allison E. Shaw (Mammoth Lakes, CA). Family was always the most important part of her life. She also enjoyed tennis, reading, piano and traveling with Mike. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Bonnie Kibble (Steve) and three nieces, Andrea, Jenni, and Holly. Now it is time to say goodbye.
