Jessica Marie (Koutnik) Brooks age 43, passed away February 22, 2022 from metastatic breast cancer. She was born September 2, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska to Jeffrey Mark Koutnik and Susan Rebecca (Stoe) Koutnik. She married Michael Stanley Brooks on January 20th, 2000, in Monterey, CA.

She was raised in Omaha for her first two years, then moved to Roseburg, OR after her father exited the US Air Force. After several subsequent relocations within different Oregon cities, her father re-entered the US Air Force in October 1983. With her family, Jessica relocated to Oklahoma City, OK; San Antonio, TX; then to Dale City, VA, where she graduated from Gar-Field Senior High School in 1996.

She joined the US Air force on April 21, 1999, and met Michael at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. They married on January 20th, 2000. She graduated Suma Cum Laude in 2008 from Southern Utah University with a bachelor's degree in nursing; fulfilling a lifelong dream. She obtained a commission and became a Labor and Delivery nurse for the Air Force, and served in California, Japan, and England before returning stateside to Maryland. She also served temporary duty in Slovinia.

Jessica was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on March 11th, 2000, and was sealed to her husband in the St. George Utah Temple a year later. She held a number of callings in the Church; her favorite among them was working in Primary.

Due to the initial diagnosis of breast cancer, she was medically discharged from the Air Force with full honors on June 11th, 2021. After a brief travel nurse stint in Arizona, she and her family returned to their desired location and settled in St. George, Utah.

Jessica is survived by her spouse (Michael), along with 5 children: Karter (Javier) Santos, Kasey, James, Jonathan, Jaxon, their crazy dog Romeo, two grandchildren and siblings: Jeremy (Kimberly) Koutnik, Heather (Edwin) Bush, Andrew (Jennifer) Koutnik.

Services will be held at the Parkway Ward Building, 675 Desert Hills Dr E., in St. George, Utah 84790, on Monday, February 28th, 2022 at 11:00 am. Viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am; just prior to the service. Following the funeral, the internment will be held at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.

The oncology clinic and team at Dixie Regional Medical Center performed outstandingly during Jessica's final days. Special thanks also go to Spilsbury Mortuary and Zion's Way Hospice.
