Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Gardner Weddington, 77, of Warrenton died Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Duke HomeCare and Hospice in Durham. Father Bill Upah conducted funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton.

Betsy was born Elizabeth Esther Blank on Oct. 13, 1932 in New York, NY to the late Adolph Blank and Anne Mary Gardner. She was an actress and a writer.

Betsy married George Lee Weddington Jr. on Oct. 23,1965.

She is survived by her husband, George, of Warrenton, and her daughter, Georgiana Weddington of New York, N.Y.

Mrs. Weddington was an accomplished actress and writer. She attended the Moravian Seminary for Girls. She was a freelance writer for the New York City Tribune, a political commentary columnist and appeared in over 300 television commercials. She also did a number of TV and radio voice-overs.

Over the years she received numerous awards and recognitions. She was a recipient of the Mayor's Volunteer Action Center Award in New York City for 1983, Certificate of Recognition NYC Department of Police, Deputy Commissioner Community Affairs, 1981.

Betsy was a member of County Committee, Conservative Party, New York City, 1988-90, 94-96, 17th Precinct Comty. Council, New York City, 1974-96, representative of Yorkville Area Catholic Council, New York City, 1986-93.
