San Jose Daily Mercury, Oct. 25, 1882, p.3. "DIED AT LOS ANGELES. From a private dispatch received in this city at a late hour last night by Mrs. Joyes, the Mercury learned of the death of a former San Josean, Mr. James Eddy. He died, after a few days illness, of typhoid fever. Mr. Eddy was a carpenter by trade, and was employed for several weeks in the construction of our electric tower. He was a sober and industrious man. He left San Jose for Los Angeles for the purpose of accepting work on the new Normal School building. His death was very sudden and unexpected. He leaves a wife and family of small children. His many friends in this city, who knew him well, and respected him for his many manly and noble qualities of heart and mind, will be grieved to hear of his untimely taking off."

Los Angeles Times, Oct. 25, 1882, p.4. "James Eddy, a carpenter, recently from San José, died of typhoid fever yesterday noon. He will be buried today at 2 p.m. under the auspices of the Patriotic Sons of America."
