Additional notes:
Barbara is named as one of (2) daughters of John Bowman in her father's "will", dated May 15, 1798 and recorded June 22, 1798. She was the youngest child of John Bowman, who died when Barbara was only three years old. As the second child of John and Margaret (Kimmel) Bowman, her birthplace has been established as Halifax Twp., as baptismal records for Henry, her brother, born in 1793, are from this area as well. No baptismal records have been found on Barbara. From other church records it is known that she attended Fetterhoff's Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church; on June 12, 1812 her name is listed as one who took communion on Sunday in that church. Barbara was the mother of 10 children. She is also named, including her surname of BOWMAN, in her husband's military papers: DECLARATION FOR PENSION for service during the War of 1812. It notes in these documents that she and Johannes Benjamin Hoffman were married in Halifax Twp., Dauphin county, on the twenty-fifth day of April, 1814. Barbara's death date is also noted in these papers as October 12, 1861. Copies of these original documents are made available through the National Archives Trust Fund, which is located in Washington D.C.. (Bio text by Deborah (Hoffman) Weiner)
