Thomas died while trying to save his brother, William Arthur from drowning. The family was at an Easter Sunday picnic. Which was on his brother Arthur's birthday.

They are the brothers to my grandfather, John Sandford Williams. Arthur was swimming on his birthday at a picnic and he started to struggle and his brother Thomas Matchett Williams tried to save him and both drowned.

Some believe that the pond they were swimming in was located on Mill Run Road in Athens.

His marker was made by his mother Beulah Hawkins Williams. Beulah made one for each of her children that are buried in the Goodgame Cemetery.
