Jay Taylor Tourtel, age 65, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, since 1999, died the 9th day of August 2022. He was born in Denver, Colorado to Fred and Fae Taylor on the 5th day of June 1957. Jay was a 1975 graduate of Wheat Ridge High School (Wheat Ridge, CO), and earned an Associate of Arts Degree at the New Mexico Military Institute (Roswell, NM) in 1977. Jay went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communications and English at the Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1980.
He is survived by his spouse, Aurora Manapao Tourtel, originally from General Santos City, Philippines; a son, Tyler J. Tourtel, age 24, of Albuquerque; and a brother, Jeff Taylor Tourtel, of Denver, Colorado. Through the marriage to his wife, Aurora, in 2008, he became the stepfather to five grown children and the great-grandfather and grandfather to 12 children, all of whom currently reside in the Philippines. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends in the United States.
Jay was a member of the Shrine of St. Bernadette since 2006, where he participated in the Couples for Christ, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Fourth Degree Knight and served as Grand Knight for Council #16201 since 2016.
Separately, Jay was a Lt Col in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), actively serving the New Mexico Wing as Public Affairs Officer since 2006. He began his career in the Civil Air Patrol in 1971 and earned the highest cadet achievement, the General Carl A. Spaatz Award (# 455). Over the course of nearly 50 years with the Civil Air Patrol, Tourtel volunteered for a variety of duties and roles. He earned the Southwest Region Colonel Robert 'Bud' V. Payton Award, for his effort as PAO in 2012; and the New Mexico Wing Public Affairs Officer of the Year in 2015.
He had worked as a Customer Service Representative at Bank of America since 2004; and a Telemarketing Representative for MCI Corporation between 1999 and 2004.
