Bernice was born January 27, 1932 in Joplin to George Barnard and Martha (Snow) Barnard. She was a lifetime area resident. She was a woman of strong faith, and a dedicated Christian. Bernice was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting antiques and was a woman of wit and grit.
Bernice married Walter H. Rickey Sr. on July 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bubby Rickey in 1977, and a granddaughter, Missy Terry in 1991.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Gates and husband Frank of Joplin, Barbara Barkley and husband Lloyd of Webb City, and Patricia Terry and husband Arnold of Joplin; three brothers, Loyd Barnard of Galena, Ks, Floyd Barnard of Racine, Mo., and George Barnard of Carl Junction, Mo.; four sisters, Dimple Plemmons of Galena, Ks., and Garnett Taylor, Mary Northern and Connie Coleman all of Joplin; seven grandchildren, Frankie Gates, Shelly Hency and husband Frankie, Trish Baker and husband Brent, Giff Barkley and wife Leslie, Toby Rickey, Torey Rickey and Brice Warren; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Rev. Frankie Hency officiating. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct their service at the Chapel. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with her twin brothers Loyd and Floyd Barnard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Pat Terry in Duquesne. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
