He graduated from Wes-Del High School in 1975. He then went on to work for the Laborers Local Union 1112 and got his certification in Hazardous Waste. He remained there until 2000 when he started working for General Motors. After working at the Mansfield Ohio Stamping Plant, he retired from the Marion Stamping Plant in 2010 and became a full-time Poppy. Steve was an avid golfer and loved to golf multiple times a week with his best buddies Danny Johnson and Brad Hicks. However, nothing compared to the love he had for his three grandchildren. He was their best friend and the best babysitter around!
He leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Debbie Bennett (Thompson); one daughter, Aubrey Grim (husband Alex); and the lights of his life- his three grandchildren, Willow (8), Gage (6), and Magnolia (2); parents, Bill and Nancy Bennett; and three brothers, Rob Bennett (Janet), Jeff Bennett (Brenda) and Kevin Bennett (Diana).
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family for a college fund for Willow, Gage and Magnolia.
