Edward Ernest Doyle, age 84, of Greenwood, passed away on August 7, 2022 peacefully at home. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances (Fran) Doyle. Other survivors, daughters, Carolyn Doyle (Dave Rowe), Elaine Bouchie (John); and grandchildren, Ben Santos (Jennifer Roach), Natalie Santos and Curtis Bouchie (Lesley Flores).

Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a heart of gold, would do all he could for others, and was an amazing handyman. There was no project he could not do.

A master electrician, Ed was a longstanding member of the IBEW. He worked at Western Electric for 34 years, first in Indianapolis, and later retiring from the Reading, Pennsylvania, plant in 1993.

Ed was born in Loogootee, Indiana, on June 9, 1938 to Rosalyn and Earl Doyle. Ed was the sixth of 10 children, and one of five who lived to adulthood. He and his siblings grew up helping out on his family's small farm. He developed his hard work and determination at a young age – he knew how to milk a cow, how to drive a tractor and how to hoe the tomato patch! He was very devoted to his family, his parents, and his siblings – Fred, Joe, Judy and Joyce.
Joining the Navy after high school, Ed learned to be an electrician while serving his country aboard the battleship USS Iowa. He crossed the equator, went overboard once, and came home to Indiana safe and sound.

Upon his return Ed married Mary Frances Jones in January 1961 and they raised their family on the east side of Indianapolis. They had trips to Florida with their daughters, and later Ed and Fran visited Las Vegas, Cape Cod, Hawaii, the Jersey Shore and many other places.

After his retirement, Ed and Fran moved back to Indiana, where they got a home on Heritage Lake. They enjoyed welcoming guests and going out on their boat.

Ed and Fran moved to the Southside of Indianapolis in the late 1990s, not long after they became grandparents. They loved having grandchildren! They made many happy memories in Greenwood.
Everyone who knew Ed would tell you what a good person was, one who bettered the lives of the people around him.

We hope you'll share your remembrances of this wonderful man.
