Penelope A. "Penny" Martin, 74, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, November 23, 2017. Wife of Francis W. Martin, Penny resided her entire life on the homestead of great grandfather Ludger Gvillo and his wife, Mary.

Daughter of Matthew Herbert and Melba Louise (Gvillo) Horn, Penny was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a very proud granddaughter of Herbert and Laura Gvillo of the same homestead.

Her desires to attain a career in healthcare showed itself early in her life. A graduate of Alton Memorial School of Nursing and St. Francis University in Joliet, Illinois, she loved her patients and hence, enjoyed a career of 43 years at Alton Memorial Hospital. Retiring from Alton Memorial Hospital, she joined Drs. Wynndel Buenger and Thomas Brummett at Piasa Pain Management in Alton.

During retirement she was able to spend more time in God's Word (The Bible), regularly attend Ladies Bible Study and became more involved in the regular activities of her church, Fosterburg Baptist Church. Not always being the soundest of sleepers, she would review her prayer list and exercise her talents as one of The Lord's Greatest Prayer Warriors. Even during times of trial and tribulation of the past 18 months, she continued to smile, keeping a positive attitude which continues to inspire her family and friends to this day. To "The End", she kept up her calling to pray for others, their illnesses, and difficulties.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, Matthew W. Martin and his wife, Angela, and dearly beloved grandsons, Evan and Elliot, also of the homestead in Foster Township.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Matthew H. & Melba L. Horn, Andrew Gerald Martin, her dear son, grandparents Herbert and Laura Gvillo, and special great uncle and aunt, Edwin and LuLu Gvillo.
