Texas to David and Lillie Pinkston and spent a very happy childhood on their farm. She had dreamed of becoming a teacher but left college to marry her sweetheart Army Air Corps Captain Charles Grice. She later lived and worked in Houston, Pasadena, and El Paso. Wylma married again to Sheldon Otis and in 1955 moved their family to Modesto, California where they owned and operated Modesto Hardware for 11 years. After a successful career as an accountant and real estate agent she retired and moved to Martinez, California to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Her loving presence will be greatly missed by her daughter Jane Banks; son-in-law Don Banks and grandchildren Ian, Kate and Brian her youngest daughter Gail Weeker; son-in-law Dr Ellis Weeker and grandchildren Elizabeth, Matthew, Lisa and Michael and daughter Sharron Grice Derrough; son-in-law Neil Derrough and their children Carolyn, Rebecca and Thea. Determined to see her daughters graduate from college, Wylma started them all at Modesto Junior College before putting them through four-year institutions. Later, she was proud to continue her own education at MJC and went on to obtain real estate licenses in both Texas and California. In spite of her success in business, Wylma always said that her greatest joy and accomplishment was raising her three daughters.
