Oliver Jerome Singleton II, 81, of Springfield died at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Haven Convalescent Center. Mr. Singleton was born in Springfield on Dec. 20, 1903, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Jerome Singleton. He was preceded in death by a son, Oliver Jerome Singleton III and a brother, Ralph Singleton.

He was a member of the St. Paul's AME Church, and served as a minster of music for several years. He also was active in various musical activities in the Springfield area. He organized and was director of the Lincoln Liberty Chorus, served on the Salvation Army board of directors, was a former WTAX radio announcer, served on the board of various civic organizations and was a precinct committeeman for several years.

Retiring in 1974, Mr. Singleton was an appellate court deputy clerk for state of Illinois.

Surviving are his wife, Rosalia; one son and two daughters; two brothers, George E. and LaRue L. Singleton; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren.

Services at St. Paul's AME Church. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
