YORK NEW SALEM Lula V. (Pennington) Hamilton, 83, formerly of Brodbecks, died peacefully at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at Colonial Manor, York. She was the wife of Robert E. Hamilton, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1986. The funeral service for Mrs. Hamilton will be held in thanksgiving for her life at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008, at Irwin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with her grandson, Jimmy N. Moffitt, Jr. officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover. Born March 27, 1924, in Dry Fork, W.Va., Lula was a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Elva I. (Shaeffer) Pennington. Lula was employed for many years as a seamstress at the former Middleburg Manufacturing in McSherrystown. She will be sadly missed by her children, Robert C. Hamilton of Stanley, Va., James L. Hamilton of Spring Grove, and Erma L. Moffitt of York; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also leaves three brothers, Troy Pennington of Falling Waters, W.Va., Samuel Pennington of Florida, and Willard N. Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and two sisters, Annie Madison of Hernando, Fla., and Elsie Harper of Grottoes, Va. Lula was preceded in death by a son, William E. Hamilton, in 1996; a daughter, Frances G. Lookenbill, in 2007; four brothers, Joseph, Otis, Robert, and David Pennington; and a sister, Bessie Varner.
