Mark Sherwin Hansen was born on January 19, 1974, in Salem, Oregon to Jimmy and Catherine Hansen. He grew up in Stayton, Oregon, graduated from Stayton High School, and served as a cadet for the Stayton Police Department. Public service, protecting, and helping others were constant themes throughout his career. He served as a security officer right out of high school. Then he joined the United States Navy and served for 10 years, primarily aboard the USS Maine submarine, and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class. Upon discharge, Mark embarked on receiving his BS in Information Technology from Western Governors University in 2020 and nearly completed his Master's degree as well. He worked for Oregon Youth Authority, Public Utilities Commission and finally with Oregon State Police, as a Senior IT Manager. Mark's team and co-workers would describe him as an exceptional leader and a fierce, yet compassionate advocate.

Although work was important to him, family was his top priority. He met the love of his life Amanda "Mandi" Sangster in 2007, and they would wed on December 6, 2008 at the historic St. Louis Church in Gervais, Oregon. They were blessed with three sons, Axel, Titus, and Zack. Mark was the most fun dad. His three little boys were his joy; they were everything to him. Mark and Mandi had the most loving marriage; he was always proud, protective, and so sweet. Often described as a "Big Teddy Bear," he was passionate about his family, always talking about the boy's latest accomplishments, and how proud he was of his wife, encouraging her to pursue a career as a pharmacist.

Mark was "King of All Nerds." He rose early each morning to play video games with his boys, and he loved reading and anything computer-related.

It was a swift and mysterious illness that took down this beautiful soul. Mark passed unexpectedly after a brief but intense illness on July 9, 2022, in Clackamas, Oregon. This thoughtful, goofy, loyal and hardworking husband/dad/son/brother/uncle/friend left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and co-workers. It feels like we lost him much too soon. But he fought an amazingly good fight during his 2 weeks in the hospital, suffering patiently and caring for those who were taking care of him right until the end.

Mark is survived by his wife Mandi Hansen; sons, Axel, Titus, Zack; siblings, Jen Mahoney, Denise Talbert, Janice Nelson and Mary Sangster; parents, Catherine and Jimmy Hansen, as well as extended family members and friends.
