Johnny Leon Melton was born December 13, 1950, to Dillard Leon (Johnnie) and Stella Cargill Melton in Snyder, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Melton, of Aransas Pass, Texas, his children Courtney and Chris Melton, their families, and numerous grandchildren. Johnny loved being a Dad, but nothing in the world made him happier than being with his grandchildren and teaching his Sunday School class! He was one of eight siblings and is survived by Tommy Melton of Marble Falls, Texas, Stella Whitmire of Cameron, Texas, Dorothy Cowey of Fort Worth, Texas, and Billy Melton of Runaway Bay, Texas.

Johnny was an active member of First Baptist Church Rockport for almost 40 years, where he taught the 55+ Coed class. He started teaching that class when he was only 42 and was happy when he was "finally old enough to be a member of the class. More than anything, he loved to study the Bible. Johnny was a board member of South Texas Children's Home Ministries and loved the work that he was able to do with the children's home.

Johnny started his career of public housing by being the Director of Public Housing in Burnet, Texas, in 1974. He and Sandy moved to Beeville in 1978 in order for him become the Director of Public Housing there. Johnny started his own business of government-subsidized housing in 1984. He worked with HUD for many years and was a trainer for the National Center for Housing Management in Washington, D.C., and for Rural Rental Housing of Texas.

Johnny wasn't a flower kind of man, so in lieu of flowers, please make donations to South Texas Children's Home Ministries. Memorial Service will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at First Baptist Church, Rockport, Texas. There will be a small graveside service on Saturday, September 4th, 2:00, at Post Mountain Cemetery, in Burnet, Texas.
