In 1963 Gene joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for 22 1/2 years retiring as an Enlisted Sr. Chief. He had many roles in the Navy, from MP to teaching welding and firefighting. Gene continued his education to become a Certified Welding Inspector and retired as a CWI Quality Assurance inspector.
Gene loved life, and he lived for his family and his fur babies. He was a hilarious, loving, and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His hobbies were his gun collection, making handmade guitars, leather work, old western movies, playing his PlayStation Sniper Elite games, fishing, watching YouTube videos, and being in the garage tinkering with every kind of tool you could ever need while listening to his radio.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara J. Brantley, daughter, Brenda Chalkley, daughter Kimberly [Tom]Kiely, daughter Malinda [Steve] Carter, son Timothy Brantley, former spouse Michiko Brantley, brother Bob Brantley, Monroe, LA. As well as Gene's grandsons Quinn Adams, Devon Adams, Jordyn Kiely, Sabian Chalkley and granddaughters Brittney Carter and Micheala Carter.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Brantley, mother Alma Brantley of Arcadia, LA., brother Malvin Brantley, sister Faye Brantley Faircloth, and Betty Jean Stewart of Shreveport, LA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, FL. 32218. Following, A Celebration of Life at The Landings at Belle Rive Club House 10200 Belle Rive Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32256.
