Lieutenant Commander David K. Sloan, Jr. was the Executive Officer (Second in Command) of the USS Corvina (SS - 226), the only American submarine sunk by a Japanese submarine in World War II. He earlier served as the Gun and Torpedo Officer on the USS Swordfish (SS - 193). This submarine was also lost with all hands later in the war. I feel compelled to add this small tribute to a brave member of "The Silent Service" who gave his life for his country. - AK1 James L. Hartman, U.S. Navy (Retired)
