John was raised and attended school in Farmington, Minnesota, graduating with the Class of 1959. He attended Winona State University for 2 years. On February 23, 1963, John married Mary Murphy and made their home in Winona. They lived in Farmington and Hastings before settling in Weatherford in 1970. John worked for 3-M Company, later selling real estate for Century 21 before buying the Barbeque Shed in 1984. He retired in 2008. John spent much of his life helping others through volunteering with St Vincent de Paul Society and donating to Native American missions. John enjoyed flea markets, gun collecting, Indian artifacts and spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Auge of their home in Weatherford; four sons, Troy Auge and wife, Kari of Bakersfield, California, Chris Auge and wife, Gena of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Michael Auge and wife, Tina of Edmond, Oklahoma and Ethan Auge and wife, Brianna of Fruita, Colorado; one brother, Joe Auge and wife, Delores of Farmington, Minnesota; two sisters, Janet Cook and husband, Roger of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Carol Widener of League City, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David; and one sister, Dana.
