Mrs. Mary D. Grant ("M.E."), 95, formerly of Friends Homes of Guilford, Greensboro, passed away Monday, July, 11, 2005, at Oakmont Nursing Home in Union, S.C. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.

Mary Eleanor Drane Grant, was born on Feb. 28, 1910, in Ebony, Crittenden County, Ark., and was raised in Bartlett, Tenn. Mary was the daughter of the late Eleanor V. Drane and Hiram Dudley Drane. She was the widow of the late Lorne D. Grant. She graduated from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi, and Columbia School of Library Science, Columbia University in New York. She reluctantly retired from the Greensboro Public School System, where she had served as the Director of School Libraries and as head cataloguer. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, a past Regent of the Guilford Battle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

The family would like to thank the staff of Friends Homes of Guilford and the staff of Oakmont of Union for their excellent and kind care of mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Library Fund or Radio Ministry Fund, 617 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401 or Friends Homes of Guilford, 925 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 or the charity of your choice.
