Deacon James Steele Jr. , 69, of Prattville, Alabama, passed away on June 21, 2022. He was born on February 22, 1953 in Autauga County, Alabama to the late James Steele Sr. and Eddie Lou Steele.
James committed his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Missionary Church of Autaugaville where he served as Deacon, Vice President of the Pastor's Aid Board and Treasurer of Sunday School. For several years James worked at Citizens Bank of Prattville, Alabama. He also worked at Crystal Lake Manufacturing for over 30 years.
James was a very loving, kind, humble and hardworking man. He had an enormous heart filled with love for God and his family. James was joined in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Ann Jackson in 1973 and from their union three children were born.
James was preceded in death by his parents James and Eddie Lou Steele, brothers Carter Steele and Albert Lewis Steele, sisters Lillie Mae Steele and Annie Ruth Peoples and sister-in law Emma Mae Jackson.
Survivors include: his wife of 49 years; children; grandchildren; siblings; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 12:00 PM at United Christian Church, 1852 Fairview Avenue, Prattville, Alabama 36066. Rev. Woodie Melton, Pastor, officiated. Interment followed at Walter Jones Cemetery, 2314 Pickett Mill Road, Autaugaville, Alabama 36003 with Davis funeral Home of Prattville, Alabama directing.
"The deacons must be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre (money); Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well, purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus."
